About Us

For almost 60 years, Bransby Horses has stood as one of the UK’s largest equine welfare charities, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules in need. What began as one man’s dream in 1968 has grown into a lifeline for nearly 1,000 equines today.

Meet our Trustees

Michael Pickles - Chair

Michael was appointed as a Trustee in August 2019 and Vice Chairman in May 2021. He is a recently retired Clydesdale Yorkshire Bank Manager, having worked in banking for 37 years.

Rosemary Gillespie – Vice Chair

Originally a nurse, Rosemary worked in California and the UK, specialising in spinal injuries and later general surgery, including as a ward sister and nurse teacher.

Carole Fisher

Carole became a Trustee in 2010, became Chairman in 2013 and after 10 years, stepped down in 2021. The entire staff thank Carole for her time and guidance over the past decade.

Heather Elston

Heather was appointed as a Trustee in March 2016 and was Head of Department of Animal and Equine Sciences at Brackenhurst, Nottingham Trent University.

Susan Dolan

Susan has a lifelong love of animals in general, but horses in particular, and she is excited to be involved with such a caring and worthwhile organisation as Bransby Horses.

Jim Robinson – Treasurer

Jim is Lincolnshire born and has lived in the county all his life. He has been employed in senior financial positions in the public and private sectors all his working life.

Alan Budenberg – Trustee

Alan joined the Board of Trustees at Bransby Horses following his retirement, bringing with him over 40 years of experience in the finance and investment sector.

Fiona Sach – Trustee

Fiona holds a PhD in elephant ecology from the University of Nottingham and remains passionate about evidence-based animal welfare and conservation.

Helen Wadham – Trustee

Helen is an academic at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she also leads the PhD programme for the Faculty of Business and Law.
